Carried in Song
Remembering Our Festival Family
The Goderich Celtic Roots Festival has always been about community - the people who gather each year, the music we share, and the connections that carry on long after the last note fades. This page is a space to honour and remember members of our festival family who are no longer with us, but whose presence, spirit, and contributions continue to shape what this festival is today.
They are remembered in stories, in laughter, in the music passed from one generation to the next, and in the sense of belonging that defines this gathering. We hold them with gratitude, and we carry them forward - always part of the festival, always part of our shared roots.
Glen Carey
(1954 – 2025)
Since the beginning, Glen was the conscience and soul of the Festival, keeping us grounded in what truly mattered, the music, the people and the environment. His love of the trees was celebrated annually in our close when Glen spoke in Gaelic and English reminding us of our human and natural roots. Generous to a fault, he instituted the selling of small trees, commissioned the seven tree carvings and supported our vision like none other.
Rick Bilcke
(1993 – 2024)
Rick wasn’t highly visible at the Festival, but for many years provided overnight security for the Festival site, along with his companion Jazzy, the Labra-doodle. Rick was known for his quiet and gentle disposition and ready smile.
Greg Reynolds
(1954 – 2023)
Greg was a key member of the organization from the beginning, managing the Festival site preparation every year, serving on the Board for many years, and as President of the Board. His leadership of the Goderich Celtic Folk Society was a challenge he met with grace and passion. His wonderful spirit and his energy at the festival was inspiring. He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his community. Slàinte Mhath Grego
Syd Monteith
(1960 – 2022)
Syd was a truly sweet and big-hearted guy and a dedicated volunteer at the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival for many years. He was part of the fabric of the college and festival, a burst of joy, energy, and kindness. He would help anyone, anytime.
